someoneoutthereishere asked: My cat was just diagnosed with diabetes. I’m also diabetic and test my sugar level throughout the day using a glucometer. I haven’t spoken with the vet yet, but does anyone know if you can even test a cat’s sugar by yourself without having to go/pay for the vet?
The insulin is really expensive and I’m trying to do the best that I can. Visiting the vet every few weeks is something that I just can’t afford, no matter how much I’d love to. Is this the only way to tell if the insulin is the correct amount? How would you even know if it was making the cat hypoglycemic? Thank you.

Elaine M asked: We’ve had ours on 2 units twice a day,per the vet, and he’s been stable these last two months, but there’s info out there that cats on Lantus for several months may suddenly go into a honeymoon phase where they stop being diabetic and don’t need the insulin anymore.
I’m wondering if anyone here has had theirs on Lantus and had this happen? What were the signs (if any) that I’d need to be watching for. I don’t home test, and he gets his fructosamine test and glucose test done every few months at the vets.
Our vet was the one who told me about the honeymoon that’s been showing up much more often on Lantus than with any other insulin.
The pharmacist I got the insulin from said the same thing.
We haven’t got a meter yet, or the strips or lancets for home testing. Right now he’s on Purina DM blended with Royal Canin Siamese 38 and a bit of Evo (that’s too rich for him). The ONLY food he hasn’t had an allergic reaction to was the RC Siamese so he gets mostly that. His wet food is 9-Lives Super Supper, the lowest carb food 9-Lives carries. All his dry foods are 35% protien or higher, plus low carb. We’ve been on the yahoo groups feline diabetes list for a year, and prior to March my cat had been controlled by diet till he had a bout of pancreatitis which pushed him into definately needing insulin.

Dream asked: We are buying prescription food, but it’s so expensive on top of the insulin. It’s getting hard to afford. Then I read somewhere that prescription food has loads of carbs as well (Hills Science M/D). Then I thought, why not fresh chicken/beef etc as there’s no carbs and therefore no sugar?
Can anyone share their diabetic cat experiences? Thanks.

sweetangentle asked: When possible, I would like to donate to pet owners or animal rescuers who may need that extra bit of help from time to time in caring for their animals.
Is there a place where I can do this?

rottymom02 asked: effort it took to groom, exercise/play train and clean up after your animal? Or were you surprised at the amount of time you needed to spend on pet related activites and chores? Any advice for prospective pet owners?

texastailfeathers asked: I’d like to know if a site exists that compares different parrot species so prospective pet owners can decide which bird might be best for them. I breed tiny parrots, and one of my customers would like to know more about the larger birds but I don’t breed them and I can’t help her. Thanks!

Lovely Lady Vette asked: I watch a lot of these tv court shows and it seems like they have a lot of dog cases of people getting sued when most of the cases could be easily avoided and are just plain common sense! You know you should keep your dog on a leash and not let him roam all over your neighborhood yet people do it anyway, and then when the dog attacks someone or does damage to property, the owners act like it’s not their fault. Or when a dog bites a child, the owners always find a way to blame the child. What makes people such irresponsible pet owners? Is it stupidity? Ignorance? Arrogance? Why own a dog if you’re not going to be responsible for it? I own a big Rott and i go out of my way to make sure that my dog isn’t a nuisance to the neighborhood. Do people just not care about their pets to just let them roam freely? I’m curious as to why people act that way with pets.

BOSS asked: I want to distribute coupons and promotional items for my pet care business to pet owners (especially dog owners) in my area. However, it would be a lot more efficient if I knew where to find them. I know there are people who could benefit from pet care who don’t necessarily look where I have previously advertised (online, fliers, business cards, etc.)
Ideally I would like to get a list of individual’s who have registered their dogs with the town but I doubt that this is possible. Are there any other ways that I can reach pet owners who aren’t actively in the market for pet care? I’d like them to at least know that my business exists.
I’ve been advertising on Craigslist for over a year, as well as local bulletin boards, pet stores, veterinary offices and grooming offices. I’m trying to find out if there’s any way I can target people who aren’t already looking- people who look at classified ads and bulletin boards are already looking.
